Update - Friday 23rd October 2026

Happy half-term! Wow, can you believe our first half-term has ended?! We have had the most wonderful week full of autumnal activities, including using tweezers to balance conkers, painting pumpkins, and going on a ghost number hunt around the nursery. We practised tool safety when we used real hammers to hammer golf tees into pumpkins, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
In the garden, we have been loving climbing and balancing, playing "What's the time, Mr Wolf?" and building houses for princesses and superheroes! We have been using our imaginations, pretending to be doctors, dinosaurs and Spider-Man, chasing the nursery grown-ups, wrapping them up in spiderwebs and then looking after them when they have a "temper" (temperature!!).
In phonics, the older children have been practising the sounds we have learnt this past half term (S,A,T,P,I and N), and our younger children have been continuing to listen to exciting stories with Mrs Stockdale, practising their listening and attention skills.
In PE, we have been doing more balancing, climbing and jumping from various heights with Coach Rosie and Coach Charlotte.
We also visited Imagination Land this week, where the children had fun running, jumping, rolling and climbing and acting out the 3 Little Pigs story!

I hope you have the most wonderful and well-deserved break over half-term and don't forget to upload pictures of all of your fun activities you get up to during the break!

Update - Friday 16th October 2026

This week in nursery, we have been reading our last Herve Tullet book - "Say Zoop". The children have been engaging in various activities involving making different sounds. Using both their voices and musical instruments. To create loud, quiet, fast, and slow sounds. We have also enjoyed playing with play dough, building towers and getting messy, rolling different objects in the paint to create marks. We have also loved mark making to music, lying on our tummies and creating wonderful artwork whilst listening to calming music.

In phonics this week, our older children have been learning the Nn sound; they are getting so good at blending CVC words. Our younger children are continuing to read and engage in stories with Mrs Stockdale.

In PE, the children have enjoyed all the colourful activities the amazing coaches have set out. We have been colour matching, creating ice creams with balls and cones and we even had the parachute out!

In forest school, we have been having fun mud painting and talking about the changes in colour we see in the leaves.

Update – Friday 9th October 2026

This week in nursery we started getting autumnal, using forks and paint to give the hedgehogs their spikes; we also used chocolate-scented play dough to create our very own hedgehogs. We have been continuing our pre-writing skills by creating different lines, dots, and shapes using our hands with paint, chalk, and pens. A fan favourite activity this week has been in the garden, using knives to spread shaving foam onto the blocks and sticking them together. We're getting really good at turn-taking after playing lots of board games this week! Do you play any at home?

During our group times, we have been reading "Dot, Scribble Go" amongst other amazing stories. The children are beginning to join in with repeated phrases they hear!
In phonics, we have been learning the sound "i", and our children also love playing "Bertha the Bus" outside. Our Rhyme of the week is "The Wheels on the Bus." Our children have loved using the building blocks to create their own buses and go on adventures together.

In PE, we have been going on colour treasure hunts, collecting coloured cones and matching them. In Forest School, we have been collecting leaves and conkers for some fun activities next week.

Don't forget our lending library is now open on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-4 pm!! :) Have a lovely weekend

Update – Friday 2nd October 2026

This week at nursery we have had another colour-filled week. We created traffic light pictures doing cutting and sticking, and created different animals using shapes. In the mark-making area, a big favourite was taking our pencils for a walk and avoiding the coloured dots. We also got some new glitter dot markers, which the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring, making dots along the lines to create different shapes. In the tuff tray, we created pipe cleaner patterns and explored a "twinkle twinkle little star" themed tray, looking at various reflective items and interesting textures.
In the garden, we used pipes to talk into, finding it very funny to hear how our voice travels. we also enjoyed investigating how magnets work and had fun exploring the nursery garden finding objects that were magnetic.

In phonics, our older children have been learning the sound "P", and our younger children have been continuing to practise their listening skills by listening to and joining in with short stories.

Our song of the week was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and our story was "Let's Play."

In PE, we have been playing Spider-Man tag and have continued to climb and balance on various equipment.

Update – Friday 25th September 2026

This week in Nursery, our story focus has been 'Press Here' by Hervé Tullet, which has provided us with lots of opportunities to continue exploring the wonderful world of shapes and colours in a fun and creative way.

Our nursery rhyme of the week was Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. The children were able to participate in the rhyme, playing with the tempo by singing quickly, then very slowly and changing the body parts we were singing about.
We have also been focusing on the ‘t’ sound during our phonics sessions, looking for things with the initial sound 't' such as tiger, teddy, toes and teeth.
We have used different shapes and paint to make prints, discovering the different marks and patterns we can create with each one. We have also experimented with mixing colours as we stamped, watching with great curiosity to see what happened when one colour met another. It was so much fun to see new colours appear right before our eyes!

Update – Friday 18th September 2026

This week, the children have continued to enjoy exploring our shapes and colours topic through a variety of fun and engaging activities.

Our book of the week has been Mix It Up!, which has encouraged the children to investigate colour mixing and discover how combining colours can create something new. We have explored this through sensory activities, including using paint under cling film, experimenting with rollers and mixing paint with our hands.

In the maths area, the children have been developing their counting skills and practising number recognition by matching numbers. We have also been encouraging creativity and early writing skills in the mark-making area through scribble-scrabble drawings.

Our song of the week has been Five Little Monkeys. We have enjoyed exploring both versions of the song, Five Little Monkeys Swinging in the Tree and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. The children have extended their learning through imaginative play, using props to act out and explore the songs. We have also been focusing on the ‘a’ sound during our phonics sessions.

Update – Friday 11th September 2026

This week, the children have continued to become more confident and comfortable in the nursery environment. They are becoming more familiar with the different areas and are showing increasing independence when choosing where they would like to play.

Our story this week has been The Colour Monster, which has given the children lots of opportunities to talk about their emotions and recognise how they are feeling. We have also been focusing on the ‘S’ sound during our phonics sessions.

Through activities inspired by The Colour Monster, the children have been exploring different feelings and the colours associated with them. We talked about how blue can represent sadness, pink can represent love and yellow can represent happiness. The children shared their own experiences and discussed what makes them feel different emotions. They also enjoyed creating their own emotion jars, inspired by the jars shown at the end of the story, and colouring in the different Colour Monsters.

In the maths area, the children have been developing their shape recognition by matching and identifying different shapes. In the small-world area, they have continued to use their imagination by selecting resources from the shelves and creating their own stories and games with them.

Outside in the garden, the children enjoyed exploring the sand pit and taking part in a colour-matching activity using the tough tray. They also had lots of fun investigating different textures in the messy tray. They used their hands to mix shaving foam, sand and water together, exploring how the different materials felt and changed when combined.

Update - Friday 4th September 2026

Welcome to the First Week of a Fantastic New Term!

It has been a wonderful first week in the Nursery as we’ve focused on helping the children settle in, bond with our team, and get to know their new environment.

We are already so impressed by how well everyone is adjusting; even our newest starters are growing in confidence every day!

This Week’s Highlights & Progress:

Growing Independence: The children are learning our daily routines, like finding their lockers at home time and putting away their own water bottles.

Exploring & Meeting the Team: Room exploration is in full swing, and the children have enjoyed meeting all the adults supporting them this year, including our sports coaches – Jordan, James, Charlotte and Rosie.

Mastering Lunchtime Routines: We are focusing on mealtimes by practising handwashing, finding our own lunchboxes, and sitting together to enjoy our food.
