  • Science Day 2024

    Wed 28 Feb 2024

As part of National Science Day, on Wednesday 28th February 2024, the children across the Federation took part in a variety of science based lessons. These included researching a number of scientists and their achievements which included Jane Goodall, David Attenborough, Louis Pasteur, Nikola Tesla, Mae Jamison and Charles Darwin. The children also completed ‘mini investigations’ ranging from making slime in Year 1 to investigating water tension in Year 3 by stabbing pencils through a bag full of water, and even ‘making’ blood in year 5!

The children had a great day and enjoyed learning about all sorts of different parts of science. A selection of the children’s work will be displayed in junior office and in the infant school corridor

  • Year 6 Netball - Oakridge v Merton

Wed 07 Feb 2024 Coach Jordan

Our year 6's headed to Merton looking to gain their first victory of the school year, and this was certainly achieved.

We started the game very brightly and began to assert our authority over Merton in the opening minutes, leading to an early goal from Riley. During the next 10 minutes, we were a bit erratic with our passing, marking and shooting, and even though we were still very much on top, we couldn't quite get that much-needed second goal. After the first 10 minutes had ended, we had a very firm chat about being more relaxed on the ball, picking up our players quicker, and taking our time with the shooting. From here on, we never looked back.

Our work rate to win the ball back was a top draw; we limited Merton to very little possession, and most of the time, we kept them in their defensive third. Our passing became slicker, and we now found ourselves converting our chances, which took us into the half-time break 7-0 up. The message during the break was simple: keep doing what we are doing, and victory will be assured. I also set the team a target of not conceding a goal.

The floodgates began to open in the second half, and we ended up winning the game 15-0. Full credit must go to Merton as they kept fighting until the end in a situation where it would have been easy to give up. Everyone was excellent today; we executed the game plan to perfection, and a special thank you must go to Miss Wilson, who has been helping the team at the netball club to improve their overall play. There was a noticeable difference in their movement, passing and shooting, which made all the difference. Onto the next one!

Team (goals): Myah (1), Evie (2), Zac (5), Willow (3), George (2), Riley (2), Taiyah and Sophia.

  • Year 3/4 Boys Football - Oakridge v Merton

Thu 01 Feb 2024 Coach Jordan

The team went into this game looking for a positive result and performance after a below-par showing the last time.

We immediately started on the front foot, with our front 3 causing havoc in the Merton back line with their purposeful and intense pressure. In the game's third minute, we won a corner, which Isaac expertly delivered and met by a bullet header from Elijah, which nestled into the top left corner, giving us a deserved 1-0 lead. After this, we continued to pile on the pressure but couldn't find a way past the Merton GK, who was excellent throughout and kept the score down to as little as it was; if it wasn't for him, we would have scored a lot more. In the 11th minute, Merton broke away on the counter-attack, and their striker unleashed a shot which was met by a superb full-diving save from Bobby to keep the score at 1-0. Soon after this, we won another corner, which Jack fired in at the near post and deflected in off the opposition to make the score 2-0 to us heading into halftime.

The break allowed us to talk about a few things to ensure the victory through the second half. We realised that their biggest threat was the goalie playing a long ball through to their number 6, and if we could nullify that, we would be sure to keep a clean sheet. I set the boys to score three goals and keep a clean sheet for the second half.

We soon took this plan into action and began to run away with the game in the third quarter; in the 27th minute, Elijah took a shot that Merton well blocked, but the ball fell to George, who cooly tucked the ball home to make it 3-0. Straight after, Jack was the most alert to latch onto another rebounded shot, and he showed good composure to slot the ball away to make it 4-0. Merton had a few chances to get forward but was denied all game by our organised defensive line, leaving Bobby with very little to do in our goal. In the 33rd minute, Isaac scored our goal of the match by unleashing a thunderous strike which found the top right-hand corner of the Merton goal, giving the GK no chance. We rounded off our scoring in the last minute through Elijah to make the final score 6-0, giving us our first win of the year.

The boys were superb today; we took our chances, defended superbly and worked our socks off to make this a fantastic win!
