  • Care in the Community - Week 5

    Tue 28 Nov 2023

This week the children created some Christmas Cards with the St Thomas residents in preparation for Christmas. Each child made a card specifically for a resident of their choice which were then taken and put up in their rooms.

We were unable to use the chapel this week so spread ourselves around the dining room area and filled the room with creative resources!

Next week will be our final visit with this group of children and we are hoping to decorate some Christmas trees around the care home to fill it with Christmas vibes!

  • Inter-Faith Week

    Sun 19 Nov 2023

This week the children have been learning about Inter Faith Week and have completed a range of fun
and engaging activities to promote Inter Faith Week. Inter Faith Week has three aims:

    * Strengthen good faith interrelations at all levels
    * Increase awareness of the different and district faith communities in the UK
    * Increasing understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs

Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs is part of the year-round
work of many people and organisations across the UK. Having a special week provides a focal point, helping to open inter faith
activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able
    to participate in it.
More information can be found on the Inter Faith Website https://www.interfaithweek.org/

  • Anti Bullying Week

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

From Monday 13th November to Friday 17th October, Oakridge
hosted our own Anti-Bullying Week where we took part in a range
of activities all revolving around the theme, "Make a Noise about
Bullying". We started proceedings with an 'odd socks day' on Monday to celebrate that we
are all unique before holding a special anti-bullying assembly led by a member of SLT.
During the week, the children completed a range of anti-bullying activities in the morning as well as taking part in a
special PE session involving the 'Pudsey's Bearpees challenge!' Each class also completed an anti-bullying session
within their PSHE lessons designed to support and encourage them to make a noise about bullying and make
positive choices. We explored what bullying is, the different forms of bullying and what to do if ever in particular
    scenarios.
Finally, on Friday we united by all dressing in spots to raise money for Children in Need to show an act of kindness
to support and help others around us.
A lovely week was had by all, raising awareness around this important subject and showing our support to others
to promote positive choices in life. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it definitely got us all talking
about how to tackle bullying; we are very proud of the way the children approached the week and helped us all to
remember that we have so much support for each other here at Oakridge!

  • Care in the Commuity - Week 4

    Wed 15 Nov 2023

This week the children went to spend some time with the residents playing a range of games! They had great fun playing 'Pop up pirate', learnt how to play checkers and completed a range of jigsaw puzzles, working together as a team. As always, the residents treated the children to some drinks and sweet treats which everyone thoroughly enjoyed! Alot of fun was had by all.

  • Care in the Community - Week 3

    Tue 07 Nov 2023

On Tuesday 7th November our little group headed off to St Thomas Care Home where we sat together completing some poppy colouring to mark Remembrance Day. It was lovely to catch up with everyone again and at the end of the session, lots of our children decided to give their pictures to the residents to keep on their walls. A great afternoon had by all!

  • Care in the Community - week 2

Thu 19 Oct 2023 Meghan Tamsett

On Tuesday 17th October we visited the residents at St Thomas for a cheeky ‘bingo’ hour! The children teamed up with the residents and competed in two games of ‘dog breed’ bingo. We had lots of fun and it generated a lot of conversations around dogs and the different breeds.

  • Year 5/6 Football (Oakridge v Great Binfields)

Mon 16 Oct 2023 Coach Jordan

Our first fixture of the school year saw us host Great Binfield's with our new year 5/6 team looking very strong and confident going into the game.

We were on the front foot from the off as our attacking players immediately put the pressure on their back line and started to create a number of chances that we couldn't quite convert.  With the Binfield's defence holding out it took a fantastic through ball from Zach to set Teddy through 1v1 with their keeper which he cooly converted to give us a much deserved 1-0 lead. From here we were dominant throughout, limiting the opposition to very few chances and we grabbed our second goal through Teddy again to make it 2-0 heading into half time.

The message at half term was clear, keep doing the exact same things as we were in the first half and we will score some more goals.

The boys came out firing in the second half as we quickly piled the pressure onto the Binfield's back line, not allowing them the time to settle down or knock the ball about. Finley and Calum got themselves a goal apiece with Teddy completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot. If it wasn't for a magnificent performance from the Binfield's second half goalie then I believe we could of scored more than the 5 we did. The only criticism was I thought we could have finished our chances better and I think the boys agreed with me! However, I think we did everything else perfectly, the game plan, pressing, passing, movement and work-rate were all spot on and we thoroughly deserved our win. Final score: Oakridge 5-0 Great Binfield's.

Team: Riley, George, Jackson, Calum, Henry, Zach, Finley, Tommy and Teddy.

  • Summer Fair

    Fri 30 Jun 2023

Thank you to everyone who attended the summer fair. Although the weather wasn’t as warm as it had been it was great to see so many people supporting the school. The Indian cuisine stall was a big hit and run by a parent governor, other parents and friends who gave up their time for us. So a big thank you to everyone who helped make the fair such a success. We managed to raise £3,540 which will go towards extending the path around Year 4 and Year 6 as well as establishing an outdoor reading area (hobbit hut).

  • Young Writers Club's working being published!

    Sat 10 Jun 2023

Our Young Writers Club, led by Mrs Becousse, recently discovered that their 'Monster Poems' will be published!

The children recently had their work entered into a young writers' competition to write a poem about a monster. Initially, one piece from each entry school would be published. However, the judges were so impressed with the children's work that they decided to publish all of the work by the children at Oakridge who entered.

Well done to all of the children and Mrs Becousse. We look forward to a copy of the book arriving in school.
